The main focus of our Subculture lies in hosting musical events as a part of the vibrant Oxfordshire dance music scene. Therefore, their target market is definitely the youth of the area.
In order to appeal to this age range we focussed on the following areas.
With the design we attempted to create a look that reflects the company itself and its core demographic: Words such as 'cool', 'funky' and 'urban' spring to mind and we used these themes to guide the conceptual work that we produced.
As well as looking the part: it was vital that SubCulture had an easy way of keeping the site up to date. The nature of their organisation relies on the fact that their followers can find out when and where their upcoming evnets will be.
Therefore the site was built with full content management, allowing them to regularly update news, event information, artists and much more.
On top of this we've also been able to supply them with several additional features to improve the user experience. These include as a simple online shop that sells branded clothing and a customisable radio player.
The combination of the above factors - plus a solid build, meant that we were able to fully satisfy their needs. Since launch, their website has become the focal point for both DJs and fans alike.
"Excelium really hit the mark with our new website. I've had loads of comments about how cool it looks and all the things you can download from it. Also, the admin area is great as it lets us keep our crew up to date about what we're doing."
- Ted Redding: Events Director, SubCulture DJs
As mentioned above, most of the information on the site is content managed - meaning that the guys at SubCulture can add and edit content by themselves.
This is done via a secure administration area. Members can log in to this at any point and then use a series of forms to edit many areas of the site, including:
As well as letting SubCulture edit the site's contents, we also make clever use of the information that has already been given to us.
For example - events: We display a list of up and coming gigs on the homepage. This list is automatically worked out every time someone views the page, so it will always be correct.
On top of this: on the events page itself different information is displayed depending on whether the event is in the future, (directions, price info etc), or in the past (event report, images from the event and so on).
Finally, we added the ability to associate galleries, artists and venues with any particular event meaning that SubCulture didn't have to add in the same information about the lineup or venue every time they wanted to post an event.
The above example serves to illustrate how useful content management can be to a website that needs to be updated.
It is important to note that without content management, they would have had to pay for our services every time they wanted to update their site. To find out more about content management Click Here
